Jaana Koponen, M.Sc., R.Psych

Jaana Koponen is a registered psychologist with over four years of experience helping individuals and couples find solutions to the following types of issues: anxiety, self-esteem, depression, relationship/marital conflict, recovering from infidelity, adjustment to relocation, stress, anger management, substance abuse and addictions, and workplace issues. In addition, she works with athletes and teams as a sport psychologist. Currently, she is working with Team Alberta teams helping them to reach their goals for the 2009 Canada Summer Games, which are held in PEI in August 2009.

Jaana Koponen is originally from Sweden. She moved to Georgia (U.S.A.) in 1996 to attend college on a soccer scholarship. In 1997, she transferred to Waterloo, Ontario to continue her studies while being a varsity athlete. In 2001, she completed her bachelors degrees in psychology and in German at Wilfrid Laurier University. In 2004, she earned her Masters degrees in counselling psychology and sport psychology from the University of Calgary, where she also played her 5th year of eligibility for the University of Calgary Dinosaurs soccer team.

Jaana Koponen worked at the Calgary Counselling Centre in 2005-2006. Since March 2006, she has worked full-time as a registered psychologist at Human Solutions, an employee assistance program provider in Calgary, where she currently works as Clinical Manager of Professional Services. In addition to providing face-to-face counselling to individuals and couples, she also conducts assessments (substance abuse and expatriate relocation, conducts presentations/workshops for organizations, and responds to crisis and trauma situations (Critical Incident Stress Management).
